Halo Wars May Get Third Playable Race In The Flood
    [IMG]

If you happened to miss our live coverage of the Halo universe panel at Comic-Con this weekend, we're not offended. It was pretty missable for the casual Halo fan. But if you're the least bit excited about the release of real-time strategy game Halo Wars, you'll be ecstatic to learn that maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to play as the Flood.

During the Q&A session, a good portion of the panel, a fan asked "Is there going to be a Flood appearance in the Halo Wars campaign?"

"That's a very good question," a panelist responded. "We haven't talked about any other races. All I can say is that it's a complete Halo game." It has already been announced that players will get their hands on a playable Covenant.

We're not going to assume that's code for "Yes, you'll be playing the Flood" — they may just make an appearance — but won't be surprised when their inclusion is announced.

Xbox Fall Update Leaked, Hacked, Relatively Useless
    [IMG]

An early beta version of Microsoft's Fall Xbox Experience dashboard update for the 360 has made its way onto the internet via the usual file sharing sites, and modders and hackers have been working overtime to get the thing up and running on their consoles. xHaVoK87 has been constantly updating readers on his progress in getting the dash functional on his box, and as of his most recent update it looks like he's been successful. Congratulations! You now have a buggy beta version of the Fall dash update, complete with font errors, missing graphics, and none of the actual features that are supposed to be coming to revolutionize the Xbox Live Experience. In essence, your hacked Xbox now looks different. Way to go.

Work is currently being done towards an install solution for retail Xbox 360 systems, but you know what? I'll just wait. Hit the jump for a clip of the new dash in action, or hit the link for the full rundown of how they did it.

Pedophiles Award "Game Points" For Nude Pictures of Children
    [IMG]

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Child predators who are apparently offering "game points" in exchange for nude images through Internet-connected video games have prompted a warning for parents from a cybercrime detective.

"Kids are playing games, and they are being asked to take photos of themselves naked in order to get game points," Florida Attorney General Cybercrime Detective Lt. David Maurer said. "There is not only the chatting version of the games but also a webcam involved."

Maurer is warning parents to take precautions when it comes to gaming because most are hooked to the Internet and anyone can be chatting with children during game play.

"My theory on it is that predators are going to go where kids are, and kids are playing video games so it's a perfect place for them to be," Maurer said.

At any time, there can be up to 300,000 people online playing the most popular Internet-connected games, Local 6's Donald Forbes reported.

"You think they're just watching a game, and I didn't really know they could actually get through the games and play a lot of people," parent Alida Magana said.

Some of the most popular games are Halo 3, Call Of Duty, Final Fantasy and Grand Theft Auto, Forbes reported.

"(We are) worried, scared and more cautious," parent Carol Montalvan said when asked about her sons' gaming. "One of the rules is that he cannot use that unless I am physically home with him; otherwise he cannot use the headset and basically chat either."

The Montalvan family has set up the gaming in the living room where everyone can view what is taking place on the screen and parental controls.

Stargate Worlds Combines Running With Shooting
    Gameplay Video

Here's the first gameplay trailer for FireSky's upcoming MMO, Stargate Worlds, based on the hit television series Stargate SG-1. It immediately reminds me of Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa, with a bit of Anarchy Online thrown in for good measure. It's got the sprawling battlefields and action-packed combat of Tabula Rasa with the otherworldliness of Anarchy Online thrown in for good measure. Hell, the characters even look a bit like Tabula Rasa player models. Maybe it's just a sci-fi MMO thing. In the future, it's all about running and shooting.
