EVGA has lifetime warranty, I think ASUS is only 3 months.

Unless you need that HDMI port, I'd go with the EVGA.

Sounds good to me. I usually stick with EvGA anyways, and after reading more reviews on that ASUS, apparently it is shitty.

Also, since it's recertified, does that mean I still get the life time warranty? Anyone know?

Refurbished products usually have lower warranty coverage than new products, but each manufacturer's policies are different, and it's possible this card is covered for life... but personally I doubt it.

I avoid refurbed products as I've seen many break down, though no video cards were among them. Still, it's possible.

Remember, it's refurbished because something in the circuit board broke down, and it was repaired. If it broke down once, then whatever caused it to break down can surely cause the same problem in the future.

yeah, i'd say you should consider options for entire system builds... i believe you just upgraded a couple of components and the whole discussion of ram. if you still have the 3 year old motherboard, then upgrading other things that maintain compatibility are just going to push your performance bottlenecks to it if they aren't already.

lol. Anyways, if I upgraded to a 9800GT would that bottleneck me even more?

the idea of a bottleneck is that only a certain amount of volume can go past it in a set period of time. for video games, you have multiple bottlenecks pertaining to graphics or loading of data, etc with some cross flow of the 2 on frame rates etc. if you can suddenly process the graphics twice as fast, you'll see improvement, but if the system can't process the data, you'll just see pretty scenery at the same frame rates as before. also, bottlenecks for online gaming extend out of system to connection speeds, loss rates, and more.
i video card on an old board is basically upgrading the coke bottle to a water cooler... capacity is increased, but the neck is still slowing down the rate. now, a video card can be salvaged to a new motherboard down the road, so don't worry so much about not getting one, but just think of what else is really old in your case right now.

well nothing really. I mena my 600w PSU is like 2 months old, the mobo I got back in 07 as well as the 7900GS and processor.

When I put my 6gb of ram in correctly when I get home and the 9800GT I should see a noticeable increase in fps and speed regardless.

9800GT from what I have heard/seen/read is fine for this mobo/processor and would still be fine if I upgraded my mobo down the line anyways..

Think I might pick it up sometime this week or next week or something.
