So I went and bought a new 32in Samsung LCD TV today. Currently, I'm using it as a monitor for shits and giggles. I'm using the HDMI output on my laptop as the video output and I'd also like to use it to pump music to the TV speakers, just to give them a good shakedown and see what I can do with them. At the moment, I have no clue as to how to tell my PC how to use the HDMIs audio output.

If your PC can output audio through the HDMI port, then I assume you would be able to see an option to select it through Control Panel --> Sounds.

Some devices don't output sound through HDMI, so you need to find a way around it.

I got it to work after some putzing around with it. Turns out I need to close any music applications and restart them after selecting HDMI as my output source to get it to work.

There's always been an option in windows sound properties under advanced to output in digital. I always assumed that's what that was for lol.

Nha, digital is most likely referring to a toslink or SPDIF connection.

  7. Thats what it refers to. I believe its that most sound card drivers support digital out and most sound cards have the option to have a connector for it, but those models just dont have the connector. Ive never been able to find it on my laptop.

For those of you who have desktops and want to plug them into your hdmi port on the tv, you can get a DVI to HDMI cable and then just use a 1/8" male to 1/8" male audio cable to plug the sound card's output into your tv's line in (funny I found a "line in" jack on my HDTV. it also has VGA).

    Thx for the info tho
