Dollhouse is the new series by Joss Whedon, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly. You can catch it on Fox 9/8c.

The Dollhouse is a place where people (called Actives) live. Actives have no personalities of their own. They are all empty shells who have been wiped clean and are at the mercy of this organization.

Clients contact the Dollhouse requesting someone for a specific need. An Active is chosen and they have personalities and memories imprinted on them to meet this need (be it the perfect date, an assassin, etc). After a mission is complete the Actives return to the Dollhouse where the personality and all of their memories are removed.

The pilot episode (which premiered tonight at the time of this post) was genuinely entertaining, though a tad inconsistent.

More than once the viewer was offered information that didn't seem to benefit the story, and characters that you would think were important are killed. It makes for a very confusing experience.

Perhaps I'm critiquing it too much, this is only the first episode. It kept me interested from start to finish, and by the end of it you are genuinely curious as to the history of Echo (the main character) and how she was inducted into the Dollhouse.

So, despite the inconsistencies (which may prove not so inconsistent as the series continues) I will have to say it is worth the watch.

    Discuss.

seems interesting, but im always hesitant to watch a show on fox till it hits the 2nd season... they've developed a really bad record over the years with creative shows getting canned as they get interesting

Why is Joss Whedon even working with Fox after how they treated Firefly ?

Well, they treated it badly in that they put it on at 8pm in direct competition with Sci-Fi Channel's heavy hitting Friday lineup and in the same time spot as Stargate SG-1, then they say it had poor ratings. I'd challenge any show to stand up to that competition for same genre, same time.

Firefly was a 3rd stike on Fox... after canceling Lone Gunmen and Brisco County Jr (both were good shows that were a little out there like Firefly), I avoid Fox whenever possible.

    It's okay, though.
The canceling of Firefly is why God invented fanfiction.

    *nod nod*

And the we have the winners at Universal who made Serenity.

I love that chick. I didn't know much about the show other then a little bit that was on my recording of the Sarah Conner Chronicles.

I might set it up to DVR.

Fox is notorious for canceling great shows because of bad ratings. The only problem is they don't know where and when to put the shows on. If they cancel Terminator I will never watch anything on Fox again until the football season.

i believe he had 5 seasons already outlined? so we got 14 episodes (once the dvd's came out) out of around 100, but at least we got 2 hours of awesome. im glad Serenity was made, but the emotional toll that Fox caused over the years hardly balances out and the written work to follow up in comics has mixed reviews.

If Dollhouse is really good, I'll tune in for the 2nd season and dl the 1st.

Lets look at what Fox has done to Dollhouse so far:
    - Placed it in a friday night slot, which if often referred to as a deathslot.
    - Advertised it and T:SCC with this trailer. If that trailer was all I knew about either show, I would avoid them.

I don't think Fox wants Dollhouse to succeed.

Joss had originally planned for Firefly to last 7 years... so we'd be on the final season if it had kept going this year.

    I totally agree

which is super freaking frustrating .... TSCC the first season and first half of the second were well written and fun to watch ...

Now I think both show could be headed for the out door ...

Which is where SciFi Channel could make a ton of money picking up these dead end series. But they continue to run SG and BSG into the ground. Their best show they cancelled years ago, Farscape, which today I still dont understand.

We've had a couple of weeks of this show so far. What do you think?

The inconsistencies with the writing are still making me hesitant to get into it. I get what Joss was trying to do, make a show that anyone can watch and get into at anytime. But that also seems to be Dollhouse's weakest point. The plot of the overall series seems to be so far on the back burner that they only mention it when they have absolutely no choice. I mean sure, we get little hints "Did Alpha do this?", "Prove to me that you're not just an Echo." but nothing that actually satisfies that urge to know more. They are in desperate need of an episode (or two) that just focuses on the point of the series: Echo realizing she's an active. Subtle hints can only get you so far, and all this constant teasing has got to be losing viewers.

I do agree that SciFi could pick them up and make them better off and that Farscape was a great show. However, BSG has the same number of seasons as Farscape... and while the plot has become a little bloated and odd, it is still a good show. I fail to see how canceling a very successful show in the 4th Season would be running it into the ground. As for Stargate, the only thing with it right now are reruns and movies to DVD.
