    The System
    a) Overall life skills level

    Your life skills level is a combined level of all of your crafting and gathering related efforts.

    b) Crafting level

    Every profession has its own level, which you gain experience for by crafting things in that profession. Higher level items give more experience. When you reach the end of level 9, you have to do a short teaching quest to move you to level 10. Level 10 unlocks you more crafting recipes and two crafting tool slots. I am assuming the same goes for level 19 to 20 and 29 to 30.

    c) Gathering level

    As you gather things you get experience for your gathering level. Some items you can only gather after you reach a certain gathering level (usually 5, 10, etc). From my experience, leveling this up is very slow. But gathering higher level materials gives you more xp.


    d) Life skills tree

    Increasing your crafting levels and gathering level rewards you with learning points, that you can use to unlock parts of the skill tree. To unlock new pages in the skill tree, you need to level up your life skills level - one level up gives you one more page.

    The things you can (and have to) unlock are: crafting recipes, gathering items (being able to recognize them), bonus social stats and other somewhat unrelated things like the warehouse and auction house. The amount of branches you unlock doesn’t affect page unlocking in any way.

    The learning points you get for this tree is one of the main things that limit you, the limited amount of points means if you go and unlock every branch, you will run out of points quite quickly for the pages that open later on.

    The recipes at the bottom of each page are recipes you can unlock anytime if the page is unlocked, without spending learning points. You unlock them by crafting other things in the same profession the unlockable recipe is on. It is RNG. Some people unlock them quickly without much effort, some don’t. As an example, to unlock leather in tailoring I had to craft about twenty thread. It doesn’t matter what you craft - as long as it is in the same tab of the same crafting profession, it has a chance of unlocking it.


    e) Social stats

    Your character has several social stats that determine what you can gather and craft. You gain these stats quite slowly when you level up your life skills level, but your main source of them are the chinese letters in the skill tree, and tools. Each type of gatherable item and crafting profession takes into account two different social stats, the primary stat and secondary stat. For example, alchemy requires mainly “dexterity” (spirit opportunely) but also “learned”. And it is the same for plant/herb gathering. You can’t craft or gather items unless you meet the statistics requirements. You can find how many of these stats you have by pressing C and going to the social tab, and hovering over the titles around the chart.

    f) Tools

    Tools give you additional social stats and some tools give you more stats the more you use them. Other more advanced tools you can craft via an npc can give you other stats like luck for gathering.

    Tools aren’t a necessity in the early game, your character has axes and anything you need to gather your starting materials, so you don’t need to buy anything to start. When you reach lvl 10 in gathering, you’ll get your first tool slots open and tools as a reward from the quest you did to proceed from level 9 to 10. The same goes for when you level a crafting profession from 9 to 10, you unlock slots for tools related to that craft and get the beginner tools from the quest.


    g) Energy and mind power

    Energy and mind power are your limits to how much you can gather and craft. The numbers are most easily found from the very top of your UI. More physical things like mining rocks require more energy and things like alchemy require more mind power. You can regen these just by being online. Leveling up crafting (and maybe some achievements) also reward you with some. From my experience, leaving my computer open for the night has gotten me about 100 more of each. On China the paid “fast fun growth” thing also makes them regen twice as fast when online, and also while offline.

    By crafting/harvesting you gain exp to the profession and exp to your social level ("Caste").
    Almost every gained social level gives you 1 point in each social stat and a rising bonus of energy and bonus of mind power (50 -> 100+).

    Energy and mind power regeneration is dependent on your social stats "learned" and "robust".
    You begin to regen 0.6 energy and mind power every 360 sec. (after a specific skill 330 sec.).
    For every 10 points in "learned"/"robust" you get additional 0.1 energy/mind power regen.

    (for example: 100 points in "learned"/"robust" gives you 419 energy/mind power per day.)

    There are 2 specific wells in "fairy mushroom land" that give you 15 energy/mindpower every 8 hours when you drink from them.

    Crafting Professions

    a) Alchemy

    Alchemy is split into two parts, pharmacy and smithing. Pharmacy mainly has different kinds of potions and buffs, and smithing has miscellaneous materials that are used in other crafting professions.

    b) Woodwork

    Woodworkers can craft various furniture items and items for siege battles. There are also some guild items that they can craft.

    c) Blacksmithing

    Blacksmiths can craft metallic items often used in other crafts, “billets” used as a base in crafting gear (though this is the less popular way of crafting gear), furniture items, and better crafting and gathering tools.

    d) Tailoring

    Tailors are able to craft the sought after inventory expansion packs, and some fashion items. Other things they can craft are furniture and repair tools. It is worth noting that the main materials for tailoring come from special mob drops (elite strange mobs in China) and not through gathering.

    e) Cooking

    Cooking has a variety of foods and teas and wines. The foods and wines are mainly long lasting buffs while the teas are potions. Through cooking you can also craft exp foods for the spa. They can also make special “heart teas” that when consumed let you kill more mobs in the underground mob grinds (for more experience).




    a) Trees

    Trees are used mainly for woodwork, but also for some small things in other crafts. Gathering trees requires mainly energy, but also mind power (about half the amount of energy). The main stat needed is “robust”, and the secondary stat is “learned”.

    b) Plants

    Plants are used primarily as base materials for alchemy. Gathering requires equal amounts of strength and mind power. The main stat needed is “spirit opportunely” and the secondary stat is “learned”.

    c) Rocks

    Rocks (or minerals) are used for blacksmithing, and require mainly energy to gather, plus a very small amount of mind power. The main stat you need to be able to gather them is “robust” and the secondary stat is “perceive”.


    d) Fishing

    Fishing is a separate gathering profession from the previous three. It requires no specific stats to be able to fish, but you need to buy fishing equipment from an NPC. Your restraints are how far you’re able to throw your hook, and with more levels in fishing, you’ll be able to get better fishing rods and throw it further. It levels quite slowly, and the main cost for this is the price of bait, in cloud coupons. It also takes a small amount of energy and mind power to fish. Fishes are mainly used as ingredients in cooking, and sometimes in alchemy. To fish, you have to go in range of the fishing circle, and right click the bait in your inventory.

    e) Treasure hunting

    Treasure hunting also has it’s own level, but it’s not really a gathering profession. You need a compass that you get from an early teaching quest (purple). In that compass you can put maps, and the compass will point you towards treasure. From my experience treasure hunting is not very useful, as it levels slowly, is quite time consuming, the maps often need to be purchased, and the rewards aren’t good. At least the rewards I got have turned out to be quite useless.

    f) Elite strange mobs

    Elite strange mobs are special mobs around the map that have the elite strange tag on top of their normal name. The only difference is they drop materials, usually 2-6 of a kind. Those are usually items for tailoring, or meat items for cooking. It takes no energy or mind power to kill these mobs, and the materials sell quite well on the market (on China at least). That is due to the rarity of these mobs. There is only one of them in a specific horde of mobs, and it respawns in 10-20 minutes. If you run out of energy and mind power, finding these mobs for extra cash or levels in tailoring is worthwhile to do. They always respawn in the same place, so once you find one, mark down the location.

    Tips And Impressions

    Usefulness of each profession

    Every profession has something that makes them useful. In my opinion you can pick any one of them to master and not have to worry about "is this profession profitable". It is not like Blade and Soul where only one or two of them were worth anything.

    A little bit of everything or mastering one?

    In my opinion it is best to focus on one profession as your main profession, and level the other professions as far as you can without investing too much into them (to gain experience for unlocking pages faster). On the Chinese client I focused on alchemy, and leveled all the other crafts to level 5 on the side. It is also okay to not touch anything else, but you’ll get the pages slower.

    The reasoning for this are the stat limitations, energy and mind power usage, and the increased profitability of materials and crafting products as you advance further. Increasing your stats takes a while, and you can only equip a certain amount of gathering tools, so you can’t really get to “late game” in more than one profession before the stats start limiting you. The learning points for your skill tree pages are also very limited and the costs increase the further you go, so unlocking them for more than one profession will mean you run out of them before you get to the final pages later on.

    However, a lot of the crafting recipes tend to use materials from other crafting professions, so based on what you want to focus on, I would suggest you team up with someone else focusing on another profession, to trade and share gathering and crafting materials.

    Getting Started

    Low lvl gathering

    At the early levels you can gather any of the low level materials. You don’t have to choose between rocks or trees or plants yet, as your base stats are enough for everything. Gathering everything you find is the best plan, as gathering nodes are limited and sought after. Getting your gathering and crafting levels up early means you’ll be able to move on to the higher level materials with less competition. The things that you can gather are silver and red sulphur, flowers and mushrooms, bamboo and mexican bamboo. In fishing you start with eel, sardines, and smallfish.

    Low lvl crafting

    All of the low level materials can be turned into something in crafting. Personally, I gathered a lot of bamboo (for inferior wood) to turn into charcoal fire in alchemy, which I could then sell. I also focused on mushrooms and flowers for alchemy, but charcoal fire was the easiest money and effort-wise on the Chinese client. If you have enough materials available to pick and choose what you want, funnel your energy and mind power into using the materials to increase the level of the crafting profession you’re going to main. Go for all the silver and red sulfur you see if you’re planning on advancing into blacksmithing, for example.

    Selling items

    You can sell any of the items you gather and craft. At some point in the game the decision will be whether to sell pure gathering materials or crafting products, or both but less of each. That’ll be up to the player to choose. When you’re trying to level up your gathering profession, it’s best to use the materials you gathered yourself to gain crafting exp.
